Manga review: Azumanga Daioh

I first read Azumanga Daioh when I was in Japan, sick as a dog, with airplane food poisoning. My room mate had a copy and told me it was an awesome read. What can I say? She was right. Although the artwork is pretty generic and some of the characters hard to tell apart, it was a fun read.

The plot itself its pretty simple, a group of friends high school journey, all the bumps along the way. There are tons of random jokes, some difficult for non Japanese readers to understand, but on the whole, its a cute story. I can't recall any romance or fanservice through the series, but the characters throughout the story are unique. The ending brings a sense of hope for the future, And I was very sad when I finished reading the series.

This manga has some insight on what Japanese high school girls think about, worry about, do in their free time and is great for people who are interested in Japanese culture.
